Thunder Cranes’ is proud to share a recent technical paper co-authored by team members from PETRONASSVP and Thunder Cranes, presented at the SPE/ICotA Symposium and Exhibition: Well Intervention, in December 2025 in Kuala Lumpur.

Title: Operation Optimization of Cement Packer and Add Perforation with Coiled Tubing Conveyance: Case Study in Sarawak Waters

Summary: This SPE paper details a successful cement packer and added perforation operation using coiled tubing in offshore Sarawak waters, supported by Thunder Cranes modular crane. Focusing on practical solutions, the authors address how the “rigless” method was safely and efficiently executed under severe offshore constraints, including:

• Restricted platform deck space
• Limited platform crane lifting capacity
• Platform structural integrity

TC Case Study: For Thunder Cranes and our scope of work within this project; our main challenge was to design a modular crane installation compatible with the platform’s structural limitations and allowable reaction forces. Our scope included detailed engineering, crane deployment, CTU transfer from the supply vessel, deck installation, and ongoing lifting support throughout operations.

Sincere appreciation to the authors, as well as the entire team offshore and onshore who supported this work. Thank you!
