Thunder Cranes supports P&A project in Malaysia

Thunder Cranes modular rental crane was determined to be the optimum solution to provide critical lifting support services for a recent plug and abandonment project in offshore Malaysia.

Although there was a working platform crane on deck, it was not able to provide the required lifting capacity and reach over the intended work area in order to carry out the project objectives safely and successfully. Following a site visit, our engineering team was able to provide the client with a feasibility study for the installation of a modular crane on the platform deck, which could provide the lifting solutions needed.

TC70-01 crane was selected to support the P&A work: TC70-01 provides sufficient lifting capability and reach for each of the critical lifts required for positioning, handling and rigging up materials and equipment on the platform deck. This project was initially planned for execution in 2020 however due to the impact of the pandemic on preparations it was deferred to 2021. The TC70-01 was mobilised in early February 2021, and rigged up by our modular crane team within days, secured to platform skid beams on the main deck via clamping system, requiring no welding.

In addition to modular crane solutions Thunder Cranes also provided crane operators for the fixed platform crane. With two cranes in operation over a large platform area the client is able to supply and position equipment and materials on the platform without disruption in order to carry out the P&A objectives more efficiently.
